Having an autistic son, I can understand the frustration young people have when trying to find relatable content and advice. Autism Understood is a website offering advice to young autistic people, written by young autistic people.
The website was a challenge as it needed to be sympathetic to the differing sensory issues its audience may have and also present itself in a way which did not appear condescending or indeed boring. The type content making up the site was varied and extensive and it was important to ensure that it was all easily searchable, and the website could be navigated in a logical manner. The site comprises about 100 different articles and covers over 20 different areas of concern the audience might have.
The website has received extremely positive feedback from local councils, healthcare practitioners, parents, educators and, most importantly, the young people themselves.
